Help a Tibetan Granny at a distance

Peace Times 10

Born in Tibet in 1935, Woeser now lives like thousands of other exiled Tibetans in a refugee settlement situated in Karnataka State in South India.

Living in a small one roomed house, Woeser is alone with no family to help support her. A little unsteady on her feet, she is still working in the fields to produce corn which will help sustain her during the winter months. With her hands placed together as if in prayer, she explains simply that she is suffering from tubercolosis and almost blind from cataracts - health problems that are easily dealt with here in the West and even prevented but, are very common in the settlements.

The small ammount of work she is still able to do and the generosity of friends and neighbours provides her with enough food to live... but not with enough money to pay hospital fees and buy medicine. The only hope that Woeser has of resolving her health problems is to find someone who would like to offer to help her at a distance.
