UN Spiritual forum: on the way!

Support grows for the proposal of a permanent forum
for spiritual leaders at the United Nations

A book and many meetings to sustain the idea that spiritual leaders can play a decisive role in bringing about world peace

The work carried out by the Lama Gangchen World Peace Foundation to make the proposal of their founder for the institution of a United Nations Permanent Spiritual Forum for World Peace is increasingly more determined and effective.

In fact, this May, the Foundation printed some 5000 copies of the book «A Solution for the Third Millennium - Proposal for a United Nations Spiritual Forum for World Peace», which gathers the translations of the Proposal in most of the official languages of the United Nations (English, Russian, Spanish, French) as well as many others (German, Italian, Tibetan, Portuguese, Chinese, Dutch) together with an appendix and photographs of the meetings which have taken place worldwide, where the Proposal has been presented and discussed.

The contributions of ancient religious wisdom are considered essential, and could in fact give us the key to peace on Earth, thus the Proposal foresees that, as a sign of dialogue, cooperation and respect, representatives from all spiritual traditions will take part, with the commitment to help politicians find a solution to the problems of humanity in the third millenium.

Now the LGWPF is busy sending copies of the book to representatives of organisations and associations working for peace throughout the world, together with a letter and support form which can completed and sent both to the United Nations directly as well as returned to the Foundation by anyone supporting the Proposal.

Since Lama Gangchen first presented the Proposal for a Spiritual Forum - at the Latin American Headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission, in June 1995 - more than eighty roundtables have been organised to present and discuss the proposal, from Brazil to Mongolia, from England to Australia.

Already in November 1998, the LGWPF prepared the book of the Proposal, printing a unique copy (lithographed in gold) which Lama Gangchen presented to the Assistant Secretary General Ms Gillian Sorensen, in a meeting at United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the 5th of November 1998.

«The Proposal begins with the belief that inner peace is the most solid foundation for peace in the world, and that as all religions promote the spiritual development of their members they can make a decisive contribution to the UN, the biggest international organisation that works for world peace - explains Lama Gangchen. My proposal has already received a lot of support and I hope that it will be realised as soon as possible: at that time, my only wish is to help the newly born organisation in whatever way I can, leaving the leadership to those better qualified».
