Nelson Mandela rewarded in New York for his commitment to non-violence

This year, the second annual Gandhi/King Award for Non-Violence has been presented to H.E. Nelson Mandela. Organised jointly by Bawa Jain for the Interfaith Centre of New York, the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Non-Violence, the Association for Global New Thought and over 500 co-sponsoring organisations, the event took place at the United Nations sponsored by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations.

The World Movement for Non-Violence is commemorating the 2000 Gandhi/King season for Non-Violence as an educational, media and grassoots campaign, dedicated to demonstrating that non-violence is a powerful way to heal, tranform and empower our live and our communities. Inspired by the 50th and 30th memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Martin Luther King Jr, this international annual series of events and activities honours their vision for an empowered non-violent world.
