Parents heartfelt plea for Draupadi

Peace Times 17

Bharat Parajuli and his wife Rama left their mountain village of Sindu Palchowk and moved to Kathmandu in search of work. Life was not easy for them and it was some time before they found jobs in a factory working long hours for little pay.

One day, they found in the city an abandoned baby - a little girl of about 8 days old - and touched by this baby's plight Bharat and Rama adopted her. Narayani is now a happy 7 year old and does not know that she was abandoned. She is always looking out for her sister Draupadi who was not blessed like her with good health. One would think that because of their generous nature, fate would have been kind to Bharat and Rama, but Draupadi was born with a hole in her heart. This was not discovered until she was 3 years old when her parents took her to the Ganga Lal Memorial hospital because she was always short of breath. The doctors told tham that Draupadi had a serious problem and needed to have an x-ray and EKG costing 2500 rupees. Bharat borrowed this money, and was later told that his daughter needed an urgent operation. Two years have passed since then and Draupadi grows weaker every day. Although Bharat is working as a gatekeeper for the factory, it is impossible for the family to raise enough money for the heart operation.

In July they were put in touch with «Help in Action». Now due to the kindness of Italian and Spanish sponsors, there is almost enough money to pay for Draupadi's operation (scheduled for the end of November). Bharat wishes to thank his generous benefactors for their great kindness: «We are very happy that our little girl that we love so much will have a chance for a better life with this operation. My wife and I thank you from our hearts».
