There exists a website called «Peace Through Play» which teaches how to transform the culture of violence into a culture of peace through play. The site receives input from various sources throughout the world on positive play experience, roleplay and drama, as well as on different creative and cultural activities; with the aim of developing in children respect for life and to stimulate their understanding of friendship and peace The concepts of «Peace Through Play» were built on the 30 years experience of «Play for Life», a voluntary non-profit organisation born to counteract the damage caused by the sudden invasion of «war toys» on the market. After publishing many books on peaceful play and organising seminars, courses and workshops for those working with children «Play for Life» unfortunately closed in 96 - owerpowered by the commercial pressures from factories that produce electronic toys and video games. From the ashes of «Play for Life» the website «Peace Through Play» was born. The philosophy of «Peace Through Play» consists in the knowledge that play is a fundamental part of human development and that play and creativity have the same root in human consciousness. Imaginative and non-competitive play encourage children to respect life. If children grow to be lovers of life, it is natural that they will have no desire to destroy it when they grow up. This love for life also helps children to be more strong in the face of negative influence and violent behaviour.«Peace Through Play» can be found at: www.users.globalnet.co.uk/index.html s.d. |
