Comiso, ex Nato base is «converted»

Peace Times 12

At Comiso, in the province of Ragusa, Italy, a «Peace Town» is born in a former Nato base. The village once used to house Nato troops now shelters more than two thousand five hundred Kosovans who have escaped from the war.

The civil protection authorities in Italy are providing them with board and lodgings and is already busy organising a school for the children. The authorities have also taken the responsibility to look for work for the adult refugees keeping in mind the professions that they followed in the country that they have been forced to leave.

By the end of this humanitarian operation, the «Peace Town» is expected to guest more than ten thousand people. The council of Comiso in the spirit of warmth and friendship has wished all the guests staying in the «Peace Town», with a message in the Kosovan language, a peaceful stay.
