Costa Rica and New Mexico: extraordinary ceremonies and conferences

In San Jose, Costa Rica, the 4th World Peace and Prayer Day Conference was held from June 18 - 21. The event which brought together many indigenous leaders from all over the world, concluded with a peace prayer ceremony held on the auspicious day of the summer solstice.

From June 22-27, also in Costa Rica, the University for Peace hosted a conference on «Peace and Time». Scientists, biologists, artists, peace workers and spiritual leaders from all over the world joined together to discuss the proposal to change the 12 month Gregorian calendar with the 13 month lunar calendar based on the calculation of the 28 day moon cycle.

The 14th International Peace Prayer Day World Music Celebration was held in New Mexico on June 19. Since 1986, artists, educators, political and interfaith leaders have gathered together on sacred native american soil in the Jamez Mountains, between Santa Fe and Taos, to promote their common aim of peace.

From 1991, the organisation has honored every year individuals for their outsanding service for world peace. This year’s «Man of Peace Award» went to Millard Fuller, President and co-founder of Habitat for Humanity International, and the «Woman of Peace Award» was presented to Nancy L. Rivard, President and founder of Airline Ambassadors, a network of volunteer airline employees who offer humanitarian services. Among the many participants of the celebration was Donovan the famous seventies’ singer.
