by Carmen Carrillo The ninth edition of the Lama Gangchen World Peace Foundation’s annual International Congress is to be held on the 5th, 6th and 7th of May in the Auditorio Mapfre (Avda. General Peron 40) Madrid, Spain. In this year’s gathering, which marks the passage into a new millennium, the main theme of the meeting will be the taditional Tibetan healing system. Nowadays, more than ever before, the medical world is becoming increasingly aware of the importance of treating each person as a whole unit and not just the manifesting symptoms. This means treating the patient on many different levels: not just the physical, but also the mental and spiritual. For centuries, the traditional Tibetan medical system has been taking this approach to the cure of disease, thus in turn healing the person on a very profound level. Just as our outer universe is composed of five elements, and every aspect of life is interdependently related with them, our body too is composed of the same elements. In essence, Tibetan medicine takes care of the five inner elements that compose our body and mind. Lama Gangchen will explain in detail during the congress the death and rebirth process - the dissolving and manifesting of these very elements - according to the traditional Tibetan system, as well as how we can find balance, peace and health in our life by harmonising our inner masculine and feminine energies. The three day gathering will host a number of other speakers who will bring their own experiences of medicine and healing to the stage, in particular the speakers will include Tibetan doctors Wangchuk Lama from Nepal and Dawa Tsering from India who will explain the basic principles and some pharmacological elements of this ancient healing system. As in previous years, the LGWPF Congress aims to draw and share information from many different points of view. Speakers not only include allopathic doctors, therapists and practitioners of alternative medicines - but also people representing diverse walks of life who will all share their personal experiences in accordance with their own traditions and cultures to demonstrate how we can achieve good health through the development of inner peace in our daily life. Dr Alfredo Sfeir Younis of Chile, will introduce the proposal for the creation of a United Nations Spiritual Forum, whilst Prof. P.R. Trivedi from India will speak on how health of both outer and inner environments are intimately linked; Lama Kadag, Usa, will demonstrate meditational techniques to help us discover our inner medicine buddha. Dr Gomez Bosque from the Spanish Valladolid University, will talk on «the effects of positive and negative emotions on the human body». From Italy, Dr Adolfo Pandolfi will give a presentation on molecular medicine and Dr Charo Carrillo, president of LGWPF, will speak on the subject of cloning. Dr Wu Ksi Ning, from Taiwan, will talk on «Chi Kung, the energy of physical and mental health» and Prof. S.N. Prasad, general secretary of the International Association of Educators for World Peace, will talk on the principles of peace education. The congress aims to awaken a deeper understanding in all those attending, so as to discover how to heal ourselves and others with gentle healing techniques, towards creating a non-violent medical system for the III millennium.
